MEYSPRING Artist of the Month - March 2025

Congrats, Art by Kelly Duval!

Introducing MEYSPRING’s March Artist of the Month winner, Kelly Duval of @artbykellyduval! She is a vibrant and vivacious artist with a candid, can-do attitude. Her process videos showcase the realities of working with epoxy and being an artist on social media. She’s not afraid to show mistakes on her journey and share valuable insights, making an admirable and very relatable impression, especially for beginner resin artists. From creating lovely resin geode wall art to fun trays embedded with flowers or Pokémon cards, she can do it all, and we genuinely enjoy her unique spins on resin art!

Tell us more about yourself!

When I’m not creating art, you’ll probably find me deep in meditation or doing psychic readings on my other TikTok page—because why have one magical business when you can have two? I’m a Psychic Medium and currently knee-deep in a 12-week Astrology class, which means I now blame everything on Mercury retrograde!

My wife owns a raw gems and minerals business called Firefly Crystals, and I help her out a lot—which is a fancy way of saying some of her crystals mysteriously “relocate” into my art pieces (finder’s keepers, right?). We have two teenage kids, three golden retrievers, and a backyard that I swear will be a garden someday. Between all of that, I have officially forgotten what “free time” feels like, but honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way!

What inspired you to become an artist?

The reason I started creating is a little unconventional—and kind of funny in hindsight. We ordered these custom geode resin pieces for our walls, spent way too much money, and when they arrived… let’s just say they were not what I had envisioned. But did I return them? Nope. I hung them up anyway and let my mild (okay, maybe intense) disappointment inspire me.

I thought, “How hard could it be to make these myself?” (Spoiler: harder than I thought.) But I was determined. I took online classes, practiced obsessively, and for a while, I was basically coating everything in resin. Two and a half years later, I’ve made more pieces than I can count, sold my art around the world, been part of dozens of art markets, and—somehow—built a community of over 65,000 art-loving friends who actually get my creative chaos. And the best part? I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. But hey, sometimes a little creative frustration (and a lot of resin) is just the push you need!

How long have you been working with resin?

Two and a half years, which sounds like a long time, but it's really not! I still feel like a beginner most days!

What made you choose MEYSPRING pigments

One of the teachers from the classes that I took way at the beginning used them and I decided to give them a try. I never expected them to be as bright and vibrant as they are. I immediately fell in love, and honestly, I'm a loyal person - when I find something that I love and that works well, it's hard to get me to switch to something else.

What is your favorite color scheme?

How dare you ask me which child is my favorite?! I love them all equally- but I run out of Dazzling Diamond all the time! The whites with gold are absolutely a favorite combination! Aside from those, Purple Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and Tropical Blue are always at hand.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Many ideas pop into my head—usually after a meditation, like a little creative download that won’t leave me alone until I get it onto a board or into a resin mold. I’d call it divine inspiration, but let’s be honest—I’m not that holy, lol.

Other times, I’ll see another artist’s work and think, “Ooooh, can I do that?”—which then turns into a full-blown experiment where I put my own spin on it. If I post it, I always tag them because I love that we’re all constantly learning from each other. Art is basically one giant, colorful game of creative tag!

How much time do you dedicate to your craft?

It depends on the time of year and what I'm creating. I tend to slow down in the colder months (we all know resin hates the cold) and then pick back up in the Spring. If I'm making a large piece and recording it for my Geode Resin Art MasterClass, I will spend much more time creating art than with smaller pieces. Also, mental health and life balance are essential to me - if I'm not feeling it, I don't push myself. So, time-wise, anywhere from "what is resin?!" to "do I even have a family?!"

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

Would I love to see my art being fought over to be sold at auction and displayed in multi-million dollar hotels and board rooms worldwide? Of course! Honestly, though, I love to teach, and that's a huge part of my platform. Sharing step by step how pieces are made and working hand in hand with the members of my art community by taking their suggestions and making new pieces has been incredibly fulfilling.

What advice would you like to share with aspiring creators?

Before diving into the wonderfully sticky world of resin, decide what you want to make (I started with geode resin art and went all in). Not all resins are created equal—what works beautifully on a wooden board might turn into a disaster if you try to preserve flowers in a deep mold.

My best advice? Pick one area to master first, get comfortable with the techniques (and the mess), and then branch out. Otherwise, you might end up with a costly, very permanent learning experience on your hands!

Any final thoughts?

My art isn’t just about making something pretty—it’s inspired, intuitive, and often infused with the energy of the metaphysical world. Whether it’s a piece sparked by meditation, a crystal that “mysteriously” found its way into my work, or a technique I felt called to explore, my creations have a story and a soul.

Also, I'm proof that inspiration can come from anywhere—even mild disappointment in overpriced wall art!

I want people to know that my work isn’t just something to look at—it’s something to feel. And, if you join me on social media, at any of the art markets that I attend, or in my MasterClass, you will definitely learn a thing or two about this art medium that has taken the world by storm!
