Tell us more about yourself!

Born in Paisley, Scotland, I grew up with a wonderful blend of cultures (my dad is Filipino, and my mom is Scottish; they met at a disco during the 70s!) from Lumpia to Tunnocks teacakes, and while I don't speak Tagalog, I can do a pretty good Scottish accent! I moved around a lot growing up as my dad was in the U.S. Navy until he retired in Washington State where I now live.

My husband, Michael, is a native Washingtonian, and we have been married for 20 years. We have two beautiful daughters who are 17 & 14, and a 90lb chocolate lab named Jack. We love to take family trips with highlights, including visiting family in Scotland and the Philippines. When I am not spending time with my family & friends, I am outside pouring in the art studio my husband built for me.

What inspired you to become an artist?

I was born with the creative spark! If you have ever read the book "Big Magic" by Elizabeth Gilbert, I was lucky enough to find my creative 'jewel' when I was young. (If you haven't read it, add it to your cart now!) My mom always told me I would choose my pencil and paper over any Barbie doll or toy when I was little.

This passion led me to attend art college, where I got my degree in visual communication and started my first official job as a Graphic Designer for Eddie Bauer, where I designed everything from signage to packaging. From there, I went on to freelance design, allowing me to work from home while caring for my two daughters.

I wanted to create and share my passion for art with my girls, so on the side, I started an art camp where I taught children about art history, and we created art inspired by all the famous masters. It ended up being a great success within my community, and I continued to do this for many years. I then started after-school art lessons and decided to try resin, and that's when the love affair began! From pour to demolding, it was just the most satisfying form of art I had ever tried. After we finished the lesson, I didn't stop! Almost 4 years later, I am still pouring and loving it.

What made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?

MEYSPRING pigments offer unparalleled sparkle and depth. Their vibrant colors bring my resin pieces to life, creating stunning effects that no picture can truly capture.

What is your favorite color scheme?

It changes by season. Right now, my favorites are Imperial Emerald and Shiny Malachite. I love the effects of adding these behind my resin blooms. Another must-have for me is Dazzling Diamond, as this adds shimmer and beauty to any matte color.

What are your artistic goals?

Right now, I have just reached one of my goals, which was to start Instagram Subscriptions, where I am now providing my bloom tutorials. My hope for this is to build a community for artists who want to learn how to create blooms like me and to provide a place of support and encouragement in their own creative journeys! Another goal is to keep pushing the bloom boundaries with lots of experimentation to develop more unique styles.

Your most significant "Aha moment"?

I've had a lot of "Ahas!" One big one was when I switched my way of thinking and started looking at resin as my canvas. The process of pouring on resin can achieve effects much like brushstrokes on paper to create imagery with depth and dimension. The possibilities are truly endless, and I can't keep up with the flow of new ideas!

Any advice for aspiring resin artists?

Let go of the need for perfection & control. AND... Embrace the unexpected.

You may have control of the colors you use and the way you pour, but how the resin combines, settles, and cures is unpredictable... and this is what fosters a sense of surrendering control. Resin art demands that you let go of the need for perfection. No two pours will ever be the same, so if you can let go of forcing a specific outcome and trust the process, you’ll allow yourself to have the freedom to create something uniquely beautiful! And often, in these unexpected moments, you create the things you could never have imagined and make the most valuable discoveries.
