Meyspring Artist of the Month - October 2021

We've been lucky to be a part of her creative journey for quite some time now, so watching her skills become fine-tuned and her exciting experiments with our Pigments is genuinely a treat to see!

Meet the Artist

We’ve spoken with Melanie for some insightful Q&A about herself, her art, inspiration, and much more!

How long have you been working with resin?

I started with resin over a year ago when the pandemic first started. I originally am a beaded jewelry artist and was looking to make some trays to display my beaded jewelry on. I realized I had so many supplies already from some of the mixed media jewelry I create, so I bought a few gallons of resin and decided to try my hand at coasters first.

I enjoyed and marveled at all the different colors and things you can do with resin and became addicted to it right away.

Tell us more about yourself!

My family is all artists in their own way. I used to own a bead store for many years, but I gave that up and moved to Florida to be around the ocean I love, the warmer weather, and lots of art shows.

I currently have a nice clientele of customers I’ve built over the years, and I do special custom orders and art shows. And am also trying all of the ideas that swim around my brain.

I’m lucky to have a very supportive husband and 8 fur babies who keep me on my toes.

What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments

I chose MEYSPRING for the array of colors! So amazing! I also love how beautiful they are in resin! They mix well and are easy to use, you don’t need a lot, and you can make new colors/hues with the White Pearl mixed in with other colors.

What is your favorite pigment color and/or color scheme?

My favorite colors are blues and greens. It seems I can’t step away from those colors but, I love all colors.

Where do you find your inspiration and/or motivation?

I always appreciate everything in nature! Birds, flowers, the ocean, and animals all inspire me.

How much time do you dedicate to your resin art?

I dedicate a lot of time to resin. I’m kind of addicted.

What are your goals for your artistic journey?

My goals are to create large geode-style wall art!!! Big resin pours! They kind of scare me. But I really want to make some big pieces of wall art!

Do you have any tips or tricks you'd like to share when it comes to creating resin pieces?

My biggest tip that I love is using and pouring 91% rubbing alcohol in my baby wipes to clean all my silicone cups and tools. It really helps to cut the time down from picking dried resin out of everything.

Any words of advice for artists that are wanting to work with resin?

The advice I would give is to be gentle with yourself, don’t give up if you make mistakes! They are all learning experiences!

Can you do any videos with voice over instructions? And can you slow it down (unless your plan is to have people not completely understand what you do or what they can do).
Sincerely,
Cathy
