We are thrilled to introduce you to MEYSPRING’s Artist of the Month, Don’t Be Basic Lifestyle!
Don’t Be Basic Lifestyle is the brand created by Brittany Gordon, who takes everyday items and turns them into beautiful works of art! Brittany is a 32 years old stay-at-home boy mom of two and married to her best friend, her biggest supporter. Here at MEYSPRING, we love being part of her creative journey! Her kind and supportive spirit with us and other artists in her community really set her apart.
Brittany “creates and sells functional art pieces to elevate everyday living and decor mainly using resin.” These beautiful pieces include effect-filled coasters, beachy serving boards, jars, trinket dishes, ID badge clips, and more! She proves that these everyday objects don’t have to be basic. If you can add some color and glamour, why not!
Resin Art Journey
Similar to many of us, Brittany’s career paths have changed direction in recent years. Her occupations have always seemed to be doing something creative, with hairdressing, fashion, and design experience under her belt. After becoming a stay-at-home mom, she was able to turn her artistic passion into a successful career.
“I’ve always struggled with what I want to be when I grow up and wanting to live up to the idea of myself I have had in my head since I was little. I’ve always loved art and creating, but it never occurred to me that it could be my chosen career path. It may have taken a little longer than most and a pandemic, but finally, I own my own business and am on my way to living up to the strong woman I always pictured myself being.”

Meet the Artist
We’ve spoken with Brittany for some behind-the-scenes insight that we are excited to share!
How long have you been working with resin?
Like many other artists, I started working with resin shortly after the first shutdown. I started with acrylic pouring and worked my way up to resin.
What is your favorite pigment color?
I’m a sucker for anything blue, but MEYSPRING Mermaid Dust has to be my favorite. The depth and color shift from blue to teal green it’s the perfect color.
What makes/made you choose MEYSPRING pigments?
I’ve been using MEYSPRING since I started. When I was looking at and trying different pigment companies what made MEYSPRING stand out to me was not only their gorgeous color palettes but their packaging. I love the box sets, and I love the large jar containers. What keeps me using them, aside from the stunning results I get, is honestly their support for their artists.
Where do you find your inspiration and/or motivation?
This is a hard question because, honestly, I draw inspiration from so much around me. If I had to narrow it down, I’d have to say my real-life passions that I’ve had since I was a kid are my biggest inspiration source. Whether it’s my long love affair with crystals and rocks or my passion for history, it’s a well of inspiration that will never dry up.
As far as motivation that’s easy, my two little boys. There’s nothing I want more than to show them their mom is a strong woman that turned my passion into a successful business. Hearing them say, “my mom’s an artist” is the best motivation I could ask for.
Any words of advice for artists that are wanting to create Resin Art?
I would say don’t be scared to just go for it, it can be intimidating, and your first try will probably be a messy disaster. I know mine was, but it only gets better from there!
